Case Studies
The Friars Primary School in Salford joined the group at the very start of the project. Over time they have ledand supported other schools in their own practice, including in peer collaboration with Salford LocalAuthority EMTAS team.
Since joining, the leadership team have developed a post incident pathway for racist incidents. They havealso ensured that there has been a deliberate and planned approach to involving all groups feel they arerepresented in the school community. This has developed as a direct impact from utilising the framework andfrom participation in the meetings.
The impact of this has been seen in the high level of positive parental responses to the work that has beenundertaken and pupils reporting a stronger sense of belonging in the school.
Gorsefield Primary School in Radcliffe, Bury joined the group at the very beginning and have played an active role in shaping the framework providing much needed support and guidance.
Since working with the group they have implemented the Halo code in school and undertaken a full self assessment using the framework. They have also worked cohesively with The Guardian’s Legacy of Enslavement project utilising resources and knowledge within their curriculum. It has also helped develop their engagement in the Church of England’s Leaders Like Us project for schools. https://www.cefel.org.uk/leaderslikeus/
They made these changes to improve their already strong approach to inclusivity knowing that inclusion is always a process. They also chose to bring these changes about as part of their commitment to growing the next group of leaders and bring about greater representation. They found that through their work they were able to influence across their Trust. There are 16 schools in the Trust covering Oldham, Bury, Rochdale, Bolton and Lancashire. The power of system leadership is evident through this work.
The impact has been that there is a greater awareness of Race Equality across the Trust and strong networking opportunities for the benefit of the children and families have been created.
